Abstract: The study investigates the language shift and maintenance from Otjihimba to English among Ovahimba-speaking youth in Opuwo, Namibia, focusing on sociolinguistic factors within the context of global urbanisation and the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It investigates historical, colonial, and political influences contributing to this shift, given English's status as the official language post-independence. focus on exploring contributing factors, understanding the impact on lifestyle, and proposing strategies for language maintenance. The study's significance lies in informing policy, aiding language preservation efforts, contributing to sociolinguistics knowledge, and serving as a resource for scholars studying language transitions. The research uses a constructivist paradigm and qualitative approach, that involves semi-structured interviews with 30 Ovahimba participants. Thematic analysis reveals three main themes: the role of formal education, media influence, and sociocultural factors. Provides a comprehensive overview of the study's participants, exploring three main themes related to language shift. The impact of the formal education system, media influence, and the interplay of social, cultural, and educational factors are examined. Synthesises challenges associated with language preservation, emphasise the need for comprehensive language programs, community support, overcoming barriers to proficiency, and collaborative efforts. Various sociolinguistic factors influence the language shift from Otjihimba to English, but the cultural significance of Otjihimba remains a motivator for preservation. Strategies for addressing the language shift include promoting bilingual education, community-led language initiatives, and raising awareness. These efforts are crucial for safeguarding Otjihimba and the rich cultural heritage of the Ovahimba community in Opuwo, Namibia.

Abstract: Urvashi Butalia, a distinguished feminist writer and publisher, has played a transformative role in feminist literature by exploring the intricate realities of women’s lives, particularly in the context of historical and social upheavals. This article delves into her body of work to examine themes such as feminist history, gender-based violence, the erasure of women's narratives from mainstream history, personal agency, and the pursuit of empowerment. Central to this discussion are her seminal works, including The Other Side of Silence: Voices from the Partition of India, which offers a poignant exploration of women's experiences during the Partition, and The Weight of Our Sky, which amplifies lesser-heard voices and stories of resilience. Butalia's writing is characterized by its ability to shed light on marginalized perspectives and to challenge dominant, often patriarchal, historical accounts. By documenting the lives of women who were displaced, silenced, or forgotten in the larger narrative of national history, she offers a nuanced critique of historical amnesia and societal indifference. Her approach is not limited to recounting past injustices; she also emphasizes the importance of agency and empowerment, encouraging women to reclaim their identities and rewrite their histories. This article shows her commitment to social justice and gender equality, highlighting how her works go beyond traditional storytelling to advocate for systemic change. By situating her literary contributions within the larger framework of post-colonial feminism, this article celebrates her efforts to amplify women’s voices, foster resilience, and challenge oppressive structures, making her a vital figure in the ongoing struggle for gender equality and justice.

Abstract: The study investigates how the Yorùbá home video titled Olórí Ebí by Muyideed Oladapo portrays the extent to which the economic situation and quest to make ends meet in this global and challenging world combined with the desire to meet up with the social demands of the competitive economy where people are trapped in a social and economic situation of inequality, has subjected people to desecrate cultural and traditional practices. The source of the data considered in this research is a Yorùbá comic home video titled Olórí Ebí by Muyideed Oladapo released in January, 2020. The study adopts content analyses and sociological theory which bothers on the cultural understanding of the society and the interpretation an individual can give to various scenes and incidences within a given society. The thematic focus of the movie revolves round cultural pervasion in a contemporary Yorùbá society in a sarcastic manner. This is expanded with the plot development which develops towards appraisal and revival of culture and traditions of historical Yorùbá society in other to create more awareness of the danger of imminent cultural extinction within the Yorùbá milieu. In the light of Olórí Ebí, Muyeedeen Oladapo advocates the restoration of the needed sanctimony for Yorùbá cultural practices and custom using funeral mourning as a case study. He lampoons the government who is guilty of the level of poverty that rampages the masses, despite the several mineral resources, wonderful vegetation, favourable climatic condition and brilliant human resources available to the nation.
