Abstract: As the ancient capital of 13 dynasties, Xi'an is characterized by the inheritance of historical context. It embodies the organic combination of cultural relic protection, transportation transformation, ecological improvement, cultural display and people's livelihood, making Xi'an a "historical living fossil" full of emotion and temperature. Xujiazhuang is a typical urban village area. Combined with the historical context, it is also the main direction of the negative space transformation of urban villages. The continuation of the negative space transformation of Xujiazhuang combined with this characteristic is undoubtedly an important way to promote economic development and inherit the historical context. The transformation of negative space should take the needs of residents as the starting point, and only through positive transformation and upgrading of residential buildings, streets and lanes, and activity venues, can it become a humanized space. Urban villages as the urbanization process, the products have been alienated from urban surrounding environment, this paper takes xi 'an high-tech zone Xujiazhuang for example, in view of the present urban villages, through on-the-spot investigation induce negative space problem at present, and analyze the problems, finally put forward the corresponding solution strategy, in order to provide ideas for the modification of the city of negative space.

Abstract: With the improvement of people's aesthetic needs, flower border design is more often used in the improvement of the landscape environment of places. In the landscape environment of museum buildings, good flower border design can make the landscape and architecture more harmonious, and more ecological planting methods can make the atmosphere of the landscape stronger. This article takes the construction of the landscape environment of the museum building as the target orientation, and takes the new naturalism as the theoretical support, and takes the landscape design of the World Irrigation Engineering Heritage Exhibition Centre in Ningxia Diversion Ancient Irrigation Area as the research object, based on the habitat conditions of the northwest aridity, to explore the new naturalism flower border design concept and the design strategy of flower landscape in the external environment of the museum building. The article is guided by the principles of locality, science and art, and concludes that the use of neo-naturalist design techniques can create an ornamental landscape that emphasizes architectural culture. This is then confirmed by case studies and further explores the positive effects of ornamental grasses on the landscape design of museum exteriors. The findings of this study will expand new perspectives on the design of museum exteriors and provide a reference for the design of exteriors of similar buildings.

Abstract: The reality that urban renewal results in changes within various spatial built forms within the urban landscape in addition to changes in the socio-economic and meaning aspects that the residents attach to various features and aspects should not be overlooked. Urban renewal changes impact either positively or negatively on the landscape identity of a city. Urban landscape identity is defined in this study as the resident’s perception of the special features that help them to differentiate between places creating images that they can recognize. There is need for effective public participation to ensure preservation of landscape identity within the cities that undergo urban renewal and other new developments. The few existing studies on urban renewal within Africa and Global South in general have not focused on landscape identity as an important concept that should be greatly considered. The study aims to show public participation currently contributes to preservation of landscape identity in public renewal projects. The research was done as a case study analysis of Kisumu City, Kenya that has recently been undergoing urban renewal through various upgrades and improvements to various public spaces and urban form elements. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches were used. Data capturing was based on mixed methods including archival records, visual mapping, photographic documentations, field surveys and semi-structured interviews. Triangulation was used to enhance validity. A sample of 384 participants from the CBD and neighborhoods were involved in the field survey. The participants reiterated that they were not substantially involved in public participation in preservation of the landscape identity of Kisumu City as they were mostly unaware of the process. However, the respondents were satisfied with the various components implemented under the renewal and the overall outcome. The study concluded that to preserve landscape identity, it should be included in public participation processes that should be emphasized in all the stages of urban renewal execution. The study revealed that public participation process undertaken did not include the important aspect of urban landscape identity as a subject of discussion in the urban renewal projects implemented.
