Abstract

The dyes, which are used as active medium for laser generation, are called laser dyes. The molecular structure, fluores-cence and photo physics of laser dyes are influenced by their surroundings. These surroundings can be in the form of liquid or solid. The liquid gain media causes several problems. A large volume of dye solution is required which is toxic and expensive. Moreover, due to limited range of tunability dye is to be changed for different wavelength regions. These problems can be resolved with the use of solid gain media. In the present work the effect of surroundings has been studied on Rhodamine B. This study may provide a good understanding of the sensing properties of Rhodamine B and the de-pendence of its properties on different surroundings.
