This study aimed to investigate the current status of humanistic care ability among undergraduate nursing interns and explore its influencing factors. A convenience sampling method was used to recruit 235 fourth-year undergraduate nursing interns who were completing their clinical internships at a tertiary general hospital in Binzhou City, China, from June to July 2025. Data were collected using a general information questionnaire, the Humanistic Care Ability Scale for Nursing Undergraduates, the Emotional Intelligence Scale, and the Clinical Communication Competence Scale for Nursing Students. Univariate analysis and multiple linear stepwise regression analysis were performed to identify factors influencing humanistic care ability. A total of 226 valid questionnaires were returned, yielding an effective response rate of 96.17%. The mean scores for the Humanistic Care Ability Scale for Nursing Undergraduates, the Emotional Intelligence Scale, and the Clinical Communication Competence Scale for Nursing Students were (73.72 ± 20.48), (115.74 ± 24.53), and (49.49 ± 12.47), respectively. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that family health status, degree of family care, degree of friend care, degree of humanistic care cognition, humanistic care training during internship, emotional intelligence, and clinical communication competence were the main influencing factors of humanistic care ability among undergraduate nursing interns (all P<0.05). The humanistic care ability of undergraduate nursing interns was at a moderate level and affected by multiple factors. Emphasis should be placed on cultivating this ability by enhancing emotional intelligence and clinical communication competence, reinforcing humanistic care training, and implementing targeted interventions.
