The present investigation was carried out to evaluate different turf grasses at Experimental Orchard, Department of Horticulture, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar during the year 2021-2022. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design (RBD) with three replications and comprised the eight varieties viz. Cynodon dactylon var. Selection 1, Cynodon dactylon var. Tifdwarf 419, Cynodon dactylon var. Panama, Cynodon dactylon var. Panam, Cynodon dactylon var. Palma, Cynodon dactylon var. Bargusto, Korean grass (Zoysia) and Manila grass (Zoysia). Tifdwarf 419 variety performed better in most traits as compared to other varieties. Resulting in, maximum thatch layer accumulation (0.57 cm), thatch dry weight (1.60 g), root depth (14.60 cm), root dry weight (0.268 g) and total chlorophyll content (3.49 (mg/g). Whereas, Cynodon dactylon var. Palma recorded maximum clipping yielding (560.10 g/100 cm2). Turf grasses performed better in most of the traits in the phase IV (June-July), resulting in maximum thatch dry weight (1.102 g), thatch layer accumulation (0.493 cm), root dry weight (0.227 g) and clipping yield (240.28 g/100 cm2). Maximum chlorophyll content (3.49 mg/g) and root depth (16.22 cm) was found in phase III (April- May). The Cynodon dactylon varieties Tifdwarf 419 and Palma were found to be most suitable to be used as turfgrasses in agro-climatic conditions of Hisar.
