Phenomenological Narrative in the Art of Autobiography: In Theory and Personal Experience

Abstract: The main purpose of this essay is to find out some of the fundamental principles and concepts, which constitute the essence of the art of autobiography as a “phenomenological narrative”. It seeks to recognize the common principles of phenomenology in that art, a recognition that it will clarify in theory and practice. Thus, it phenomenologically investigates the art of autobiography as a practice of phenomenology, i.e., as a phenomenological narrative. The introduction starts from the phenomenological tradition, which asserts the intimate relation between artistic vision and phenomenological approach to phenomena. Accordingly, it seeks to prove that autobiography can also be an art which bears the characteristics of the phenomenological approach, and perhaps more strongly than any other art can bear. In what I call “the art of autobiography”, the narrator practices reflection as an act of consciousness, in order to grasp the meaning of his/her lived experiences In this respect, I can claim that in that form of art, the relation between art and phenomenology is stronger and intensified than in many other narratives. This can be clarified by exploring the main phenomenological concepts, which at work in that form of art, such as reflection, inter-subjectivity and lived experience or the experience of "life world" (Lebenswelt). Along with this reflection, which seeks to grasp intentionally the meaning of the experience of the self, "inter-subjectivity" is another phenomenological aspect of narration, which is intrinsic in the essence of this reflection. It is true that narration in autobiography is concerned with personal experiences, but this does not mean that the narrator here is concerned only with his/ or her own experience apart from the others who can share and endure the same experience, even when this happen on the level of imagination. The concept of personal experience as inter-subjectivity leads us to explore the author manipulation of his memory in respect to time and space, and, in the end, to lived experience itself. In this sense, we can consider the art of autobiography as a way in which phenomenological approach can expresses itself in its endeavor to extend to all of our lived experience of our world.

The Deaf and Graphic Design Education: Figuring the Challenges of the Sign Language Interpreter

Abstract: This paper stems from preliminary observations of hearing-impaired students and interpreters at the Department of Graphic Design in the University of Education, Winneba. The study examines the challenges faced by the department’s sign language interpreters with mixed backgrounds interpreting graphic design courses. The helper and facilitator models guide this study theoretically. Adopting a qualitative approach with a case study method, data is gathered from two interpreters through a face-to-face interview. Data is further analysed using thematic data analysis. With supportive pieces of evidence, some challenges faced by interpreters were identified. Interpreters without graphic design background were found to process some unqualified information; the lack of the adaptation of visual cues, unavailability of structured concepts for interpreter use, unavailability of note-takers, the lack of recognition of the hearing-impaired by some lecturers and fast-paced lecture delivery were also identified. However, the study recommends an initiative of lecturers inquiring about hearing-impaired students at lectures to affect pace of lecture delivery, the provision of note-takers, the addition of visual cues in lecture delivery, and the design for structured concepts to be used by the department due to the practicality of courses offered. Moreover, this improves the pace of lecture delivery in the practice of inclusive education.

Abstract: Symbolic wisdoms; distinguished but communicative wisdoms in the form of imagery (designs or symbols) by which a country, tribe, or ethnic group use to convey its rich culture and philosophies, have since been used in many mediums to communicate to people. Among the Ghanaians, the most popular symbolic wisdom “Gye Nyame” which translates as “except God”, symbolizing God’s supremacy and omnipotent is not only conveyed in textile design and architectural buildings but also in traditional Ghanaian furniture items. Among the Chinese, Dragon (Lóng), which symbolizes imperial power and authority, protection, good luck, male vigor, and fertility, is the most popular Chinese distinguished symbolic wisdom not only conveyed in textile design and architectural buildings but also in the traditional furniture items they use. There are more symbolic wisdoms used by the two countries in their Traditional furniture industry. They are to serve as a vessel for expression, posing a question or suggesting a possible answer. It is, however, a worry that though most Ghanaians and Chinese users of Traditional Furniture items with wisdoms conveyed in them know and can mention some associated with them respectively, they do not know the meaning or message the symbolic wisdoms carry. Given this, the study primarily aimed at researching the various symbolic wisdoms conveyed in the traditional Ghanaian and Chinese furniture items, to educate users to have in-depth knowledge and understanding of their preferred symbols when conveyed in furniture items. The survey research design using the qualitative approach was adopted. The convenience and purposive sampling techniques were considered to select a sample size of 25 respondents each from the two countries for the study (50 respondents). A significant percentage; 55% and 43% users respectively of Traditional Ghanaian and Chinese furniture items with symbolic wisdoms conveyed in them do not know the meaning or message the symbolic wisdoms carry. The study is expected to help educate the users to get in-depth knowledge and understanding of the message the symbols carry rather than just picking and using crafty symbolic wisdom(s). Both Ghanaian and Chinese users are encouraged to find out the meaning and the message a preferred symbolic wisdom carries before it is used. Again, further studies need to be done on the influence symbolic wisdom(s) has/have on users, and how it/they corelates with their behaviour. Furthermore, studies on other peculiar symbolic wisdom conveyed in furniture items found in temples, churches, mosques, etc. needs to be researched.

Abstract: This article seeks to demonstrate how some government decisions dismantled the teaching chain of Drawing, here understood as a support for science and a graphic extension of mathematics in problem solving and in the creation of objects or buildings. Recent researches point to an increasingly complex definition of the act of drawing, but, paradoxically, the teaching of drawing goes in the opposite direction. We begin the article with an examination of what is defined as drawing, followed by a history of drawing education in Brazil, focusing especially on secondary and higher education. Then we address the manual and mental skills obtained from the study of Observation Drawing, Geometric Drawing, Descriptive Geometry, Technical Drawing, which are of great value for personal development and for the advancement of project knowledge, support for the creation of new ones. technologies, objects or buildings. We register the weakening of the design teaching chain and the risk of extinction of the design of the curricula due to mistaken teaching policies. We emphasize the teaching of Descriptive Geometry for being the basis for engineers, architects and designers, a foundation without which there is no possible development and innovation. We also point out the false solutions offered by computer programs that present results, but do not teach the process of reasoning and spatial visualization. The adopted methodology was bibliographical research and critical reflection on the theme, it is, therefore, a descriptive and comparative analytical qualitative study. Evidencing this situation and understanding it is the first step towards a change of attitude.

Abstract: The leather fashion industry has always been one of China’s important industries with a higher degree of industrial agglomeration and internationalization. After 30 years of precipitation, adjustment and reform, it is now marching towards a stage of in-depth innovation. Based on the analysis of the current situation of the leather industry and leather wear design, this paper puts forward the main status and problems faced by the Chinese leather wear design: style convergence, seasonal limitations, environmental issues, and talent problems. According to the characteristics of materials, craftsmanship and structure of leather wear, this paper attempts to propose specific design strategies from the following perspectives: design resource integration, design methods, design thinking, and collaborative innovation. These perspectives provide the following four aspects of innovation strategies for advancing the overall desgin level as well as design value for Chinese Leather wear: integration and optimization of design resources, innovation in design methods, improvement of design thinking, cross-border collaborative innovation and joint efforts of the government, enterprises, and colleges. On this basis, this paper explores and studies development ideas, and thus puts forward four suggestions on new directions of Chinese leather wear design, that is technology, refinement of positioning, branding and sustainability.

Abstract: As a window for displaying the city's image, the landscape of the highway entrance has become the focus of urban construction. However, as urban construction is bound to occupy more cultivated land, the contradiction between urban construction and cultivated land protection has become increasingly prominent. Therefore, applying agricultural landscape at the highway entrance for creating a beautiful space with historical characteristics and rich farming culture is an effective way to solve this contradiction. Here, to explain the design concepts, ideas and principles of the application of agricultural landscape, Jingshan entrance of Hangzhou-Changxing Expressway was studied. The results showed that the tea hills at Jingshan Entrance created a rich rural cultural landscape of Zen-Tea culture, thus the city’s entrance became the most distinctive first scenic line without changing the use of agricultural land, and the people who enter the toll station gradually immersed themselves in farming landscape and the mood of Zen-Tea culture. Considering that, the agricultural landscape is featured with production value, leisure value and aesthetic value. It can not only alleviate the contradiction between city construction and cultivated land, but also has a unique and profound aesthetic effect on the city entrance, and reconnects urbanites with rural. In this case, attention should be paid to agricultural landscape in the process of transportation planning and urban planning, and urban agriculture is worthy of further practice and research in urban construction, agriculture heritage protection, ecology, production, education, entertainment, community participation, agricultural tourism, industrial integration, health preservation and other aspects.

Abstract: Background: Although research into the content of instrumental lessons is limited, that which is available seems to point to the predominance of technique, notation, and repertoire as the main ingredients for lessons. Method: In this paper, Carl Czerny's approach to preparatory practices and training notes and five-finger training, more than one octave practices as well as the addition of bass clef in the left hand, addition of accidental and practices in easy scales and rhythmic practices and addition of rests in Etude Opus 599 have been investigated by descriptive, analytical, and experimental study. Result: Considering the weaknesses in playing techniques and the importance of the tonic etude, the focus of this paper is to identify the strengths and weaknesses of this etude for students and teachers. Studies have been conducted. Some of the issues raised in this etude are the age groups that can use this etude or whether there is a need for a prerequisite for hitting this etude. Or do you need to offer other practices to the student alongside this etude? In this article, we have responded to these problems. Conclusion: The quarter and eighth notes, then the addition of the combined meters as well as the triolé-eighth notes go ahead and are used in the lessons ahead of the tri-laeighth and trill sixteenth as well as a variety of rigorous. Finally, it is recommended that mechanical practices for hand rotation and speed practices and ornament notes and step-by-step practices be used for the student to facilitate the implementation of these etudes for students, as well as these practices are suitable for all ages that reach the intellectual and physical maturity necessary to perform these etudes.
