About This Special Issue
Since its discovery, plasmas have aroused great interest, both in basic research and in applied science and technology in diverse fields. One of its applications is plasma treatment, which modifies the surface of different materials (e.g., polymers, metals, textiles, and ceramics, among others) in very different ways, depending on the parameters of the treatment. The different types of plasma treatment include cleaning, etching, and activation with plasma. Also, in the last decades, plasma systems have been designed to treat different geometries and types of materials. With a plasma system, it is possible to treat two-dimensional or three-dimensional pieces of varying size, different materials, and even powder. The focus of this edition is on plasma interaction with materials/condensed matter as it is present in most of the plasma-related technological applications such as in industry, medicine, agriculture, surface processing and nanofabrication. The edition will highlight recent progress in the investigation of the different phases involved in plasma-material interactions and surface modification. To approach these challenges, theorical, experimental and computational methods can be proposed. Participants are encouraged to present their unpublished, cutting-edge research and scientific results. Among the topics selected for this edition are:

(5) Catalytic reactions with plasmas
(6) Plasma sources design and characterization

(9) Atmospheric/high-pressure plasmas
(10) Plasmas in (contact with) liquids / plasma-liquid interaction
(11) Plasma processing of materials, including etching and deposition
(12) Plasma-deposited protective and tribological coatings
(13) Plasma-deposited coatings for optical, electronical and other functionalities
(14) Plasma application for nanotechnologies
(15) Plasma application for biology, medicine, and agriculture
(16) Plasma application for environmental issues and resource recovery
(17) Plasma techniques for surface modification: PECVD, PIII, rf sputtering, etc.
(18) Plasma surface treatment for general materials (metals, polymers, ceramics, etc.)

Plasma processing of diverse materials (metals, polymers, ceramics, etc) finds a several applications in engineering and industry, becoming one of the most promising areas in science. Moreover, surface modification of materials has attract the attention of diverse scientists in the role world owing to the performance of treated materials, regards wettability and wetting, improvement of hardness and low friction, optical properties, corrosion resistance, surface morphology, etc, leading to high performance of treated materials. Then, it is very logic, to be opening the opportunities to introduce the newest results on science concerned to plasma processing in order to comprove the improvement of the properties of the treated materials.
