Abstract

Health is a fundamental value that determines the quality of life, social well-being, and professional capacity of individuals, particularly among young people. In recent years, a decline in student health has been observed, largely due to increased academic workload, psycho-emotional stress, insufficient physical activity, and poor adherence to healthy lifestyle principles. Medical students are a particularly important group, as their health status directly affects their future professional performance and their role as health promoters in society. The objective of this study was to assess the lifestyle characteristics and health-related behaviors of students at Tashkent State Medical University. A cross-sectional sociological study was conducted involving 60 students using structured questionnaires to evaluate dietary habits, stress levels, harmful behaviors, physical activity, and awareness of health risks. Descriptive statistical analysis was applied to interpret the collected data. The results revealed that a significant proportion of students did not adhere to healthy lifestyle practices. Nearly half of the respondents skipped breakfast and consumed unhealthy foods, while a considerable number reported high stress levels, with some already experiencing gastrointestinal disorders. Tobacco use, including active and passive smoking, was common, and alcohol consumption was prevalent among the majority of participants. Physical activity levels were low, and awareness of disease prevention, particularly gastrointestinal disorders, was insufficient prior to seeking medical care. Despite these findings, most students acknowledged personal responsibility for their health and expressed willingness to receive guidance on healthy lifestyle practices. In conclusion, the study highlights the need for systematic health promotion among medical students, including regular preventive examinations, educational programs, and early identification of risk factors through screening tools. Strengthening health education and preventive strategies is essential to improve student well-being and support the development of a healthy future workforce.
