Introduction
Throughout the decades the human beings has developed and researched numerous biological processes for the maintenance and improvement of the quality of life, among these processes are those of fermentation that have been known since antiquity through the manufacture of breads and wines. Biotechnology is a field of science that is constantly evolving and acts directly in various sectors such as the food industry and other sectors such as textiles, chemicals, environmental, paper and mining. Numerous biotechnological processes over the years are being researched and have become promising technologies with low cost and environmentally correct. An example of promising technology that has been studied over the decades is the process of removing pollutants from potentially toxic metals and organic compounds through biomasses by biosorption, another example of a promising biotechnological process is the biogenic synthesis of metal nanoparticles mediated by biomasses, plant extracts and microorganisms, both processes cited above are examples of promising biotechnological processes which are sustainable and inexpensive alternatives when compared to conventional methods having the same aim. It should be noted that these advances in science, technology and biotechnology will be fundamental to the continued development of the bio-economy. Given this, it is essential to have a special edition that focuses and reports the main scientific advances in various biotechnological processes.
