Perspectives of Pediatric Nursing is the Information about health gained by morbidity and mortality over specific period. Morbidity and mortality data provide information about the causes of death and illness, high-risk age groups for certain disorders or hazards, advances in treatment and prevention as well as specific areas of health counseling. The world health Organization (WHO) has defined health as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease”. The five causes of death in children are accidents or injuries, congenital anomalies, cancer, homicide and heart diseases. Whereas, injuries is the leading cause of death in children older than one year of age. It is responsible for more childhood deaths and disabilities. Factors that increase child morbidity are barriers to health care, homeless and chronic health problems. Children living /exposed to at-risk environments “adopted children and day care centers may be likely to have medical problems as infections” in addition to behavioral, social, family and educational problems are a new morbidity or pediatric social illness. These problems are due to poverty, violence and school failure. Nursing is the prevention of illness, the alleviation of suffering, and the protection, promotion, and restoration of health in the care of individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations. The philosophy of family centered care recognizes the family as the one constant in a child’s life through, respect, collaboration and support. Enable families by creating opportunities for all family members to display their current abilities and competencies and to acquire new ones that are necessary to meet the needs of the child and family. Empowerment is one component of family centered care that describes the interaction of professional with families in such a way that families maintain or acquire a sense of control over their lives and make positive changes to foster their strengths, abilities and actions. The role of the pediatric nurse are therapeutic relationship, family advocacy / caring, disease prevention / health promotion, health teaching, support/counseling, restorative role, coordination/collaboration, ethical decision making, research and health care planning.
