Multiferroic Materials and Their Application

01About This Special Issue

In recent years, multifunctional multiferroic with two or more ferroic (ferroelectricity, (anti)ferromagnetism, and ferroelasticity) order have become hot topics in the increasingly scientific and technologically relevant world of novel multifunctional materials due to the possibility of controlling the electric order with the magnetic field and vice-versa. Due to the interaction between the spin and charge, coexistence of ferroelectricity and ferromagnetism has the possibility to exhibit the magneto-electric effects. Magneto-electric effects on multiferroic are expected to produce the future advanced devices. Developing novel multifunctional materials and exploring their applicability has become the focus of more and more fields, such as materials, sensors, actuators, and biomedical applications. Although the research community has made positive and fruitful progress in these areas, it still necessary to discuss the main problems that should be solved for practical applications, these are related to performance improvement, in-depth understanding of the physical and chemical properties of the materials, processability, equipment integration, and reliability. It seems worth noting that open questions, problems, and challenges are continuously emerging, which has become a never-ending source of future research ideas and applications.
This issue aims to fundamentally understand the magnetoelectric multiferroic materials and summarize their recent developments in single-phase and composite multiferroic materials (Bulk, Nano and thin films), focusing on their synthesis, structure–property relations, and their application in novel device architectures.
Aims and Scope:
  1. Multiferroic materials
  2. Magnetoelectric effect
  3. Anti(ferromagnetic)
  4. Ferroelectricity
  5. Spintronics
  6. Magnetic memory devices
