Figure 1: relationship between technical tactical events and physical load is a very complex and messy phenomena. Thousand events occurred and continuous connections between physical demands and decision making. (Prozone&Amisco)
In a recent paper by Dr C. Filetti et al., emerges like is not really correct to analyse the football performance as the outcome of the different aspects (technical, tactical, physical, cognitive and psychological). The relationship among these abilitiesduring the match and then the success of the technical skills after the required locomotion is not as clear as shown for several years.
“In possession skills needs to be deeply analysed: the shots on goal are strongly influenced by the high intensity Metabolic Power and moderate one for the positive acceleration before the impact with the ball. Likewise the crosses success seemed to be independent from the previous high intensity for speed and acceleration (positive and negative), but a strong influence can be noted for the high intensity Metabolic Power. Conversely, dribbling does not register any strong influence from the previous high intensity activity, as well as the forward passes”, Filetti said.
In the paper, Filetti et al., show, through the statistical approach used, how the weight of the different form of high intensity is skill-specific and a great cooperation between all the components of the staff is crucial to adapt the training sessions to the real performance and then the needs that football requires in its elite level. Shots on goal performed with more than 3 high intensity acceleration preceding the ball contact show 100% success for this skill; likewise successful crosses frequently occur with at least one high intensity event in any form. The above should make us think about the training means used to be conscious of what we are encouraging in each proposal, according to the goal.
Filetti et al. go on to suggest that "without possession skills (interception and tackles) point out low connections with the previous physical demand, moving the attention on a tactical – cognitive reason to assign at the successful solution of these events. Transferring this concept to the training stimulations, coaches should always build practical situations enhancing the decision making of the players: anticipation, reading, cooperation seem factors involved on these skills development".
Finally, this paper suggest as the role of the fitness coach should support more consistently the work of the head coach, under the technical-tactical point of view too. A good management of all the variables (spaces, times, number of players, etc.) should be provided and monitored using the relevant technology (video analysis, GPS, big data analysis). The modern instruments allow to capture and analyze all the performance details: more and more frequently the top level staff rely on professional profiles able to provide individual and collective feedback from the game model, both regarding the own team framework and the opponents weak and strong points. Then the football cannot be divided in tactical, technical, physical, cognitive and psychological aspect but all these factors are continuously intersected.
